Welcome to the official documentation for Private Notepad for Jira. This guide covers everything you need to know about capturing personal thoughts, organizing your workspace, and managing space settings.
🚀 Getting Started
Private Notepad adds a personal, distraction-free text area directly inside your Jira issue views. Your notes are strictly private—linked only to your Atlassian user account. No team members, managers, clients, or Jira administrators can view what you write.
⚙️ Admin Settings (Space Management)
Jira Administrators can easily control where the app is active.
Enabling / Disabling per Space
- Go to Jira Settings > Apps > Private Notepad Configuration (or navigate to your Space Settings).
- You will see a list of all spaces in your Jira instance.
- Toggle the switch next to any space to Enabled or Disabled.
💡 Note for Admins: Disabling the app for a space simply hides the Notepad UI on those issues. Existing notes aren't deleted and will reappear if the space is re-enabled unless the work item it is attached to is deleted.
✍️ Using Notes in Jira Issues
Creating & Editing Notes
- Open any Jira issue in an enabled space.
- Locate the Private Notepad panel on the issue view.
- Click into the text area and start typing.
Real-Time Auto-Save
- There is no "Save" button.
- As you type, the app automatically saves your changes.
Resizing the Notepad
- To adjust your workspace size, click and drag the resize handle in the bottom of the notepad panel.
- Your preferred height will stay adjusted as you work through your notes on that ticket.

How to Access
- Click Your private notes under Apps in the left navigation menu of Jira to open your personal dashboard.

- Direct Issue Links: Click any note to jump directly to that work item.
